Hello, Kathy;
SRS stands for supplemental restraint system; another name for the airbag system.
Whenever you start the car, the airbag control module checks to see if all electrical circuits in the airbag system are connected and operational. If any of the circuitsx fail the self test, the control module shuts off the airbag system and turns the SRS light on to alert you to the fact that the airbags are not working. If you get in a collision while the SRS light is on, the airbags will not deploy to protect you.
If you want to fix the problem to make the airbags operate normally and to turn the light off, you will need to take the car in to a repair shop that has the capability of communicating with the airbag system to have the cause of the problem diagnosed and corrected Testing and repairing airbag systems does require some special equipment and knowledge of the involved diagnostic procedures to do safely; this is not really the kind of repair youcan do at home in the driveway.
