I just replaced a bad engine in an 1999 3.2 Isuzu Amigo with a 2002 passport 3.2 L engine. We wired everythig up and timed the engine using the factory instructions and the vehicle wont start.   We have spark and fuel is making its way into the fuel rail line. We sprayed starter fluid into the intake and other than popping once it didint have any effect.

Further tests ow that we have no compression in the passenger side bank and 80 PSI on the right side. We had the engine timed however we unsure if it was done correctly and dont have any timing instructions to follow to verify the timing. We checked spark and fuel injectors and both were OK.

Are you saying that the timing could be right and still produce compression levels that I indicated? What would cause the cylinders to be washed down with gas? Also if the timing was off would we have heard any mechanical sounds like knocking when the starter was cranking and could that have caused damage if the timing was wrong?

I forgot to mention that I didnt hear any sounds when it was cranking so thats why I thought the timing might be right. We were about to redo the timing and have all the pullies and covers off right now so I will check that then try the oil test and get back to you tomorrow with the results. Its going to take me a little while to get all that done.
