I have a 97 Honda Odyssey with a 2.2L 4 cyl (engine is the F22B6). Dd not notice an oil leak over the last 3 weeks, don't drive it every day, had the family in it last week while it was below zero - and the temperature did not come up. Then while stopped - smelled the burning oil. It is leaking profusly around the boss area or the base of the boss where the oil filter is screwed on. The engine still sounds OK, and there is no oil in the radiator fliud, and no radiator fluid in the oil - what's going on? Did something warp? Did the thermostat stick? Is my engine caputz?

Yes, when you pull the filter clean the whole boss area and wipe it clean with a rag. Then try grabbing the boss threads and see if you can move them. The filter screws onto the boss threads. That piece with the threads on it sometimes will back out and cause a leak. I'll be on all day tomorrow to answer questions.

Reply to Kyle Northrop's Post: Kyle - sorry for the delay, the weather has been realy bad here, and I am without a garage, but can get one if needed. Anyway - I pulled to filter after draining the oil - di what you said - but the boss, the threaded boss, seems tight. The rest of the back of the engine seems clean from leaks - what next? Thanks in advance!
