2004 Element ex 4wd @80k miles. Front end lightly shakes @ 35-40mph. Slowing down a bit then re-accelerating again eliminates it. Replace axle assembly?

This may be a dumb question but have you had the tires balanced?

I had new tires installed about 6 mos ago and the problem did start thereafter. Not immediately, but after. I did pay for balancing at that time but I guess that would be a good place to start?

Yes,

That's the first thing I'd do. Also regular tire balancing isn't a bad idea. As the tire wears you sometimes get an unbalance. Not only that but the wheel weights fall off from time to time, maybe that's what happened in your case. If you brought your Element into my dealer and I got the repair order the first thing I'd do to try and repair it would be to balance the tires. Usually that will fix it.

Thanks, I'll try that first. What is the symptom(s)of bad cv joints - anything similar to what I'm experiencing? I'm curious if those need to be replaced at or near the mileage we're at (@80k). No clunking while turning or any other symptom.
