Honda civic thermostat.
Sent to Honda Experts November 25 04:41 PM

Hi, my Civic, 2002 ex has a minor problem. When i drive it for a while, the temp gage reads normal. Sometimes if driven for a long period of time I will come to a stop and the temp gage will rise to Hot and blows cold air. When i get going again, the temp gage drops back to normal and the heat again works fine. It seems that as long as i am giving the car gas, the temperature which is set on hot is fine and the gage reads normal. This only happens when i come to a stop... that is when i notice the temp gage rise to Hot. I have had my rad flushed, water pump replaced and my thermostat replaced with a 195 degree thermostat. This seems to happen especially if i drive for more than a hour or so or drive the car a bit fast sometimes and then am waiting at a light. The car does not make any noise even if the temp reads hot like a car would if it was overheating. It seems to fluxuate but will rise to the H when i am stopped and go back to normal once i begin to drive it again. Hope this helps

Sounds like the thermostat may still be bad. I have had bad luck with non honda thermostats.

Was this the original problem before you replaced all these things?

Hi, well for the amount of money to get the answer, i would say it was ok. My Civic had this problem before i got a new thermostat, maybe it is the thermostat as it is not a honda one..
