I have a 1995 Honda Civic EX coupe, 5 speed. Crankshaft pulley is wobeling loose and making noise because of that. Car still runs and no noise from any other location. I shouldn't have but drove 10 miles like that, noise goes away at high speeds, but comes back at anything lower than 3k RPM. Can this be just the pulley bolt or can it be a broken crankshaft? I am looking at the worst situation, rather than just fixing that problem only, I am looking at rebuilding my engine instead. What is your advise from your experience?

Hi,

While it is possible that it is just a matter of re-torquing the crank bolt, you need to check for messed up threads inside end of crankshaft where crank pulley bolts goes in. Unless you are hearing a loud knocking noise like a piston slap, I dont elieve that you are dealing with a broken crankshaft. If threads are messed up, it is possible to re-thread, but I would recommend having a professional do that. Unless there are other issues with engine, I wouldnt rebuild unless necessary.
